About the album
Soul Songs is a study of music that moves us. It's a homogenous blend of various folk traditions that are informed by both Black American and European song traditions. This collection brings these timeless pieces markedly to the present through the lens of jazz sensibility.
The seven songs on this album were chosen for their timeless and universal appeal and contain musical and literary elements that move us emotionally: the pentatonic scale, step-wise motion, returning themes, memorable performances and poetic motifs of deliverance, redemption, life and love.
This project is lovingly dedicated to Julie's father, Granville E. Moore, for sharing his love of music with her and for supporting her dreams since childhood.
